Tomorrow we will have hot lunch at the STEM learning lab. If your child ordered hot lunch, please still remember to pack a snack. Thank you! Grade 4's have been hard at work this week! We tackled a math puzzle that has yet to be solved. Is it possible? Feel free to try it at home! Grade 4 experimented with refraction and managed to make a penny disappear, a straw bend, and an arrow flip. While at first we thought it was "magic", we soon learned that it was a trick of the light. We have also been working hard on our 'Homesteading Journals'. Students have been given three full class periods to journal seven days in the life of a Homesteader. These journals must be completed by Tuesday, February 5 (some may need to be finished at home). I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Next week, Grade 4's will be returning to the STEM Learning Lab!
Please make sure to pack a snack, lunch, and water bottle. Students will have the opportunity to be indoors and outdoors, so also ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. We will be bringing our indoor shoes to the STEM Learning Lab. The Grade 4's will return to the school between 3:00-3:30. If your child will be absent on one of these days, please email Linda Halford to let her know. We are looking forward to another exciting week at the Lab! Here is our math puzzle of this week. (X can be any number.)
We solved this puzzle together at school, and got 15 different solutions! Try it at home, and see how many different ways you can find to solve it. Have a wonderful weekend! As we approach the end of term 1, I have had the opportunity to read with the Grade 4's and update their Raz Kids reading levels. Please use the following chart for further information about Grade 4 reading expectations.
This Tuesday, we explored how light interacts with different objects. After the experiment, the class reflected on their findings and discoveries about the three types of materials - transparent, translucent and opaque. Ask your children about their science experiment! |
