Wednesday, February 27th is Pink Shirt Day. On Wednesday please wear pink – a pink shirt, pink pants, a pink bracelet or even a pink sticker to show your support in our stand against bullying. We encourage everyone to choose kindness! Let’s make our school PINK!
Telus Spark field trip forms will be coming home today. Please return the signed form by March 8th, or at your earliest convenience. If you would like to volunteer for this field trip, please contact Ms. Hamel! News from STEM Learning Lab! Attention parents of Rideau Park School! After a brief break from activities, we are pleased to announce STEM Learning Lab will be returning to our school in the months of March and April to continue running their Friday After School Clubs! The theme for this session is Mad Scientists, with students getting the chance to perform all kinds of experiments, from creating super strong bubbles, to making a hot foamy mess with Elephant toothpaste! Swimming forms are coming home today! Please return all forms (acknowledgment of risk and two swim ability forms) to me by Monday, March 4th or at your earliest convenience.

We are embracing Valentine's Day by celebrating friendship! After reading the book Say Hello, Grade 4's discussed the importance of including others, empathy, and the power of supporting one another. Don't forget that tomorrow is our Valentine's Day celebration and STEAM activity. Please feel free to bring in cards and supplies for our zip line delivery boxes! Next week is going to be a short week, as Teacher's Convention will be taking place on Thursday and Friday. As there will be no school on Valentine's Day, we will be having our Valentine's celebration on February 13th from 3:00-3:45!
For our Valentine's Day celebration, students will be able to hand out Valentines and participate in a STEAM activity. They will be asked to create a box and a way to attach it to a zip line in order to deliver their cards (or another item of their choice) safely. If students are bringing in Valentines, please ensure that there are enough for all students in the class (we have 28 students in Grade 4). Students may also bring in supplies from home to build their box and zip line, if they would like to. February is a short month, and March will be upon us before we know it! Grade 4 will be heading out on multiple field trips in the coming months: March 13: Telus Spark Field Trip April 4: Aggie Days Field Trip Swimming dates to follow If you are able to volunteer for either (or both) field trips, please let me know at your earliest convenience! We used dominoes to help us solve our problem of the week, before we sketched out the design. This problem was harder than it looked and we found out it has multiple solutions... feel free to try it at home! '"Tinkercad is an easy, browser-based 3D design and modeling tool for all. Tinkercad allows users to imagine anything and then design it in minutes." After meeting our new 3D printed friend, Justin Beaver, the Grade 4's have been inspired create 3D products of their own! We have begun our study of 3D shapes with Tinkercad. Grade 8 buddied up with Grade 4 to help them with their first experience on Tinkercad. We can't wait to keep developing our tinkering skills! Today is our last day at STEM learning lab. Grade 4 students did a presentation of their clothing designs to Grade 8s. We will be back to Rideau tomorrow!
